FUND CHANGE. FUEL ACTIVISM.

Join us to end gun violence in your community.

A great plan is made at breakfast.

  • Our Mission

Cereal For Breakfast provides activists at all levels with a strong, effective, and accessible platform to advocate and raise funds for organizations that are working to end gun violence in our communities.

  • Our Vision

Our vision is to empower change-makers to mobilize their communities to take action, advocate and raise funds in the wake of tragedy to end gun violence.

  • Our People

Cereal for Breakfast was founded by individuals who have been too busy, too scared, and too caught up in making it just right to do much more than make a personal donation following a gut-wrenching headline. We’re doing it busy, scared and imperfectly so others don’t have to.

The Makings of Cereal for Breakfast

Have you ever listened to the the parent of a school shooting victim recount the events of their day? “It was a regular morning. They wore a Paw Patrol shirt. We negotiated over brushing their hair. They ate cereal for breakfast.”

And without warning, the most typical morning quickly becomes the most tragic day.

With every headline we hear about gun violence, we’re left feeling helpless. We look around the table at the little ones whose lives are dependent on laws with loopholes and politicians with lined pockets. In turn, we face an unpredictable epidemic of gun violence—nearing 160 mass shootings in 2023 alone.

“Vote them out,” is what people tell you to do. Wait for another election cycle. Wait for a solution from the school. Wait for someone to do something.

We’re tired of waiting. We want to make change NOW.

So What Are We Doing?

We're planning a fundraiser that anyone could host! And then, we’re building a portal so that they can.

Cereal for Breakfast will make hosting future fundraising events wildly simple, accessibly cheap, and incredibly effective so that community planners (like you!) can mobilize their communities in the instant a gun violence tragedy occurs. No experience necessary.

For every kid that won’t be here for their bowl of Froot Loops,
we’re inviting you to Cereal for Breakfast.

UPDATE: This event raised $6,067 for Lives on the Line! You can make an impact like this, too! Host your own

SET THE TABLE FOR CEREAL FOR BREAKFAST
CFB events are often held quickly in response to gun violence. Because the plan and the collateral are ready for you, all you’ll need to do is:

  • FIRST, LET US KNOW ABOUT YOUR EVENT HERE!

  • Find a space.

Community centers, living rooms, park pavilions, event spaces—any space will work!

  • Set your price.

You know your event and network the best! Are you inviting big wigs and c-suite change-makers? Let’s sell those tickets for $100! Are you setting up on campus to capture students who skipped their Pop Tart? $10!

  • Select your charity of choice.

We like Everytown, Moms Demand Action, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and Lives on the Line KC (if you’re local to Kansas City). Is there a hyperlocal organization you’d prefer? You know your community best! Just let us know.

  • Invite your community to RSVP.

You can ask them to provide proof of donation to your charity so you can skip the worries of accounting, or collect donations and make one donation on behalf of the event! We just ask that you complete a short post event recap so we can measure our impact! We can help you with a CFB form, or you can also create your own event on Facebook, e-vite, Event Brite or any other platform you prefer! (This is an area we’re developing to serve you better!)

  • Secure product donations/buy product.

That’s one reason the menu is simply cereal + coffee—it's cheap, comforting and easy to find! Assume that each guest will have one to two servings.

  • Review available documents, edit as needed... then post and print!

We’ve got a growing library of resources. Review our customizable invitations, printable templates, postcards, decor and more. If you can’t print at home, all can be easily printed at you local print shop! Give yourself about 48 hours to ensure your print shop has time!

  • Determine your programming.

Design an event that works for your group! We have events that tap into their connections like lobbyists, social workers, therapists, lawyers and more to help educate and inspire. You can also reach out to the charity you selected to see if they have a local speaker! But know this: Even just being together with likeminded individuals can lead to powerful conversations that can lead to change.

  • HOST!

Gather you community and get ready to see how a simple gathering can lead to safe communities!

We had our first event in the summer of 2023. Others have hosted, too. And now we rally after the KC Rally and Parade.

But, what about others?

(Because there will be others.)

Here is what we’re working on for other enraged planner-types…

We’re working on making this simpler and simpler, so that when the rage and the passion and news cycles are their highest, CFB Community Planners can access the Cereal for Breakfast portal, submit details for a CFB event and in 24 hours receive:

  • An open ticket portal for your event

  • A media kit and press release template.

  • A connection guide to put you in touch with businesses, influencers and politicians in your area that are willing to participate and support.

  • Even more event signage, activities and decor that are easily printed through local print shops.

Are you a business or expert that is interested in providing services or support for Cereal for Breakfast hosts?

Thank you to those at the table extra early…
